He was a Benedictine monk born to French nobility. He studied the care of Saint Paschasius Radbert and Saint Adelard of Corbie. He founded a Christian church in Sweden in 832 AD. He served as the Abbot of Corbie in 834 AD and later the Archbishop of Hamburg, Germany after ordination by Pope Gregory IV.

He established the first Christian schoolin Denmark that was run out by pagans and burnt to the ground. He campaigned against slavery. Great evangelist and miracle worker who was greatly devoted to the poor and sick. He also served as the Archbishop of Bremenm, Germany.
