Biography
Saint Birstan was a spiritual student of St. Grimbald. He later became a Benedictine monk and also a bishop of Winchester England from 931 to 934 AD. Birstan was known for his work with the poor and praying for the dead. At one instance, the dead were reported to have responded Amen.
He founded the Hospital of Saint John in Winchester which is in existence to date. He was forgotten for years until he appeared in visions to St. Birinus and St. Swithun.
