St Candida Maria de Jesus was also known as Juana Josefa Cipitria y Barriola. She was a Spanish nun and the founder of the Daughters of Jesus. She was born on May 31 1845 in Andoáin, Gipúzkoa, Spain and died on August 9 1912 at the age of 67 in Salamanca, Spain. We celebrate her feast day on August 9 every year in the Catholic Church.

Saint’s Biography
Saint Candida Maria de Jesus Cipitria y Barriola was oldest of seven children of Juan Miguel Cipitria and María Jesús Barriola. Her family were weavers and Juana learned the trade as a child. At 18, she left home to work as a house help for a family in Burgos in Spain.
On December 8, 1871, Candida founded the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus to promote Christian child-rearing and to improve the state of women in Salamanca in Spain. She died on August 9, 1912, in Salamanca in Spain of natural causes.
