St Cuthbert Mayne Life History
St Cuthbert Mayne was Raised a Protestant by his uncle, a schismatic minister. Appointed as an Anglican clergyman at age 19.
Companion of Saint Edmund Campion. He changed over to Catholicism in 1570 while an understudy at Saint John’s College, Oxford.
Considered and appointed at Douai, France, the main Englishman prepared there. Appointed and came back to England in 1575 with Saint John Payne to priest to secret Catholics in Cornwall.
Captured in 1576, denounced and martyred for the wrongdoing of being a cleric. Proto-saint of English theological schools. One of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.
