Saint’s Biography
St. Eleutherius of Illyria was born in the first century In Rome, Italy. His father was Saint Anthia of Illyria. Anthia died early when St. Eleutherius was still a boy, and then he was brought by his mother Antia.
Eleutherus educated by Bishop Dynamius, and he became a deacon when he was sixteen years old and a priest at seventeen. Because of his outstanding virtues, he was elected bishop of Illyria at twenty-year-old. In Illyria, he worked with great success and converted many to Christ. Emperor Hadrian (117-138) sent Felix to kill him but Felix been baptized.
He was arrested for converting an imperial official to Rome with his mother Antia and eleven other Christians. After cruel torture, he was beaten to death in 138 AD. His mother Saint Anthia of Illyria was beheaded for mourning his death at Foggia in Italy.
