St Eric of Sweden was born around 1120. He was the King of Sweden from 1155 until his death on 18 May 1160 in Uppsala, Sweden. We celebrate his feast day on May 18 every year in the Catholic Church.

Saint’s Biography
Saint Eric was the king of Sweden who defended his country from Finnish invasions. He codified Swedish law according to the principles of the gospel. Eric used his throne to spread the gospel in his kingdom. He built the first large church in Sweden in Old Uppsala. Eric was killed by anti-Christian Swedish nobles. Because of his zeal to defend his country and his faith, his banner has been worn for centuries by Swedes, including non-Catholics. He was beheaded on 18 May 1161 as he left Mass
