Saint’s Biography

Saint Ethelhard of Canterbury was an abbot in Louth, Lincolnshire in England. He was the bishop of Winchester in England. Later Ethelhard became Archbishop of Canterbury in England, consecrated. Ethelhard fled from his diocese for a while but returned to work with King Cenwulf who succeeded in Mercia in restoring the rights of Canterbury. In 803 Ethelhard convened the synod of Clovesho which resulted in a requirement of pledge obedience by new bishops to their superior. He died on May 12 805 at Canterbury in England of natural causes and was buried in the Canterbury cathedral.
