St Euthymius the Illuminator was an abbot and translator of the Bible born in 955 AD in Meskheti, Iberia, Georgia and died on May 13 1028 near Byzantium when he fell off from a horse. We celebrate his feast day on May 13 every year in the Catholic Church.

Saint’s Biography
Saint Euthymius the Illuminator was born in 955 in Iberia, Georgia. He was the son of Saint John the Iberian and nephew of the great Tornike Eristavi.
Euthymius and other Iberian youths were held hostage for a while in Constantinople by the emperor to secure an agreement between the court in Byzantium and the princes of Georgia.
Together with his father Euthymius build the Iviron Monastery on Mount Athos for Iberian monks. In 1002 when Euthymius’s father died he succeeded him as abbot of Iviron.
Athanasius died in 1000, and then Euthymius also took over the leadership of the Great Lavra.
Death
He died on May 13, 1028, from injuries sustained when he fell from a mule while traveling.
