Saint’s Biography

Saint Ida of Boulogne was born around 1040 in France as the daughter of Duke Gottfred IV and his first wife Doda. At of 17, Ida married Count Eustace II of Boulogne in Flanders. They became parents of Gottfred and Baldvin of Bouillon. The children become leaders of the first crusade and crusader rulers of the Latin kingdom of Jerusalem. Their son-in-law was the German emperor Henry IV (1056-1106).

Her husband Death

After her husband’s death in 1070, Ida spent most of her great fortune helping the poor and founding monasteries in Picardy in France. She exchanged many spiritual letters with saint Anselm in and one of them still preserved. Ida, a woman concerned with the beauty of God’s house.

St. Ida of Boulogne Death

Ida died on April 13, 1113 and was buried in the Vast Monastery.
