St Melaine of Rennes Biography

St Melaine of Rennes was also known as Melanie. He was a monk and later became a Bishop of Rennes, France during the 5th and the 6th centuries.

He nearly eliminated idolatry in his diocese. Melanie was a close friend and advisor to King Clovis.

He wanted his priests to stop celebrating mass on portable altars accompanied by women who administered the chalice to the faithful.

He had a conflict with the British evangelist who tried to introduce Celtic liturgical forms confusing the new converts.
