Saint’s Biography
Saint Pascal Baylon was born to Martin Baylon and Elizabeth Jubera on 24 May 1540 in Spain. His family was poor but rich in religion. From his youth, Pascal showed great devotion to the Eucharist.
At 7 to 24, he worked as a shepherd to help the family. Later he joined the lay brothers and often served as a cook or doorkeeper. Pascal’s charity for the poor and oppressed, his unqualified courtesy and humility were remarkable even for Franciscan standards.
During his trip to France, Pascal defended the Real Presence against the blasphemy of a Calvinist preacher and escaped death by a Huguenot mob.
Poorly educated, he was still a consultant whom the poor and rich sought. His cult is strong in Spain and southern Italy in Central and South America. He died on 15 May 1592 (feast of Pentecost) at Villa Reale, Spain, of natural causes.
