Saint’s Biography
Saint Petronax of Monte Cassino was born in 670 AD at Brescia, Lombardy, northern Italy. He became a Benedictine monk at Brescia, Italy and later an Abbot. In 717, he came to Monte Cassino on a pilgrimage to the tomb of Saint Benedict on assignment from Pope Gregory II. There he re-built, re-staffed and re-invigorated the monastery at Monte Cassino, Italy following the Lombard invasions that had left the place damaged and deserted. Petronax served as abbot.
Death
He died in 747 AD of natural causes and his lost during one of the later destruction of the monastery.
