Saint’s Biography
Saint Potamon was the bishop of Heraclea in Egypt. During the persecution of Maximinus Daia in the early 4th century, he was tortured and crippled for his beliefs. Potamon took part at the Council of Nice in 325 and resisted Arianism. In 335 he defended his friend St. Athanasius, at the Council of Tire.
When the Arian Gregory seized power in Egypt in 341, he had Potamon beaten with clubs and left for dead. Potamon received medical help, survived his injuries for a while, but died because of the damage in 341. Athanasius wrote his biography.
