St. Veep Biography

St. veep was a princess, the daughter of chieftain Caw. St. Veep was the sister of Saint Samson of York and was related to Saint Gwenyth of Cornwall, England. Saint Veep parish is named after her. She was driven to the south by non-Christian locals called Picts.

All records seem to refer to the saint inconsistently as either male or female. This high degree of confusion about the saint’s gender implies that, by the late middle ages, the name was largely used as a place name. That may be the reason for the change in dedication to the parish church of St Veep.
