1st Reading – Wisdom 6:1-11

1 Wisdom is better than power, and a prudent man is better than a powerful one. Therefore, hear, O kings, and understand; learn, you judges of the ends of the earth.

2 Listen closely, you who hold the attention of the crowds, and who please yourselves by disturbing the nations.

3 For power has been given to you from the Lord and strength from the Most High, who will examine your works and scrutinize your thoughts.

4 For, when you were ministers of his kingdom, you did not judge correctly, nor keep the law of justice, nor walk according to the will of God.

5 Horribly and quickly he will appear to you, because he will make a severe judgment for those who are in charge.

6 For, to the little, great mercy is granted, but the powerful will endure powerful torment.

7 For the Lord will not exempt anyone’s character, nor will he stand in awe of anyone’s greatness, because he himself made the little and the great, and he is equally concerned for everyone.

8 But a powerful torture pursues the powerful.

9 Therefore, O kings, these, my words, are for you, so that you may learn wisdom and not perish.

10 For those who have justly preserved justice will be justified, and those who have learned these things will find what to answer.

11 Therefore, desire my words, love them, and you will have instruction.

Responsorial Psalm – Psalms 82:3-4, 6-7

R. (8a) Rise up, O God, bring judgment to the earth.

3 Defend the lowly and the fatherless;
render justice to the afflicted and the destitute.
4 Rescue the lowly and the poor;
from the hand of the wicked deliver them.
R. Rise up, O God, bring judgment to the earth.

6 I said: “You are gods,
all of you sons of the Most High;
7 yet like men you shall die,
and fall like any prince.”
R. Rise up, O God, bring judgment to the earth.

Alleluia – 1 Thessalonians 5:18

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
18 In all circumstances, give thanks,
for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel – Luke 17:11-19

11 As Jesus continued his journey to Jerusalem, he traveled through Samaria and Galilee.

12 As he was entering a village, ten lepers met him. They stood at a distance from him

13 and raised their voice, saying, “Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!”

14 And when he saw them, he said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” As they were going they were cleansed.

15 And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice;

16 and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan.

17 Jesus said in reply, “Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine?

18 Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?”

19 Then he said to him, “Stand up and go; your faith has saved you.”
