Blessed Jane (Joana) of Portugal was the daughter of Alfonso V, King of Portugal. She was born on February 16 1452 in Lisbon, Portugal and died on May 12 1490 at the age of 38 in Aveiro, Portugal. We celebrate her feast day on May 12 every year in the Catholic Church.

Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Jane of Portugal was a Princess and the daughter of Elizabeth and King Alphonsus V of Portugal. In 1473, she entered a Dominican monastery in Aveiro, Portugal. The royal family Opposed her discussion as Jane had to marry to ensure the continuity of the royal lineage. She agreed and in 1485 Jane took vows when the succession was secured.
