Blessed Andrea Franchi Life History

As a boy, Blessed Andrea Franchi went to school at the Santa Maria Novella Dominican convent in Pistoia, Italy. At the age of 14 years, he joined the Dominicans there and became a great preacher and evangelist.

Later on, he became the Prior of the Dominican houses in Pistoia, Lucca, and Orvieto in Italy. In 1382, he became the Bishop of Pistoia, Italy, and his love for the sick and the poor gained him the title of Father of the Poor.

There is a miracle attributed to him whereby he ended an epidemic of the Black Death. He served as a bishop for 18 years and after poor health took its toll on him, he retired back to the monastery in Pistoia and lived as a prayerful monk.

Blessed Andrea Franchi died on May 26 1401 in Pistoia, Italy, and was buried in the church of San Domenico in Pistoia. When his tomb was opened in 1613, his body was found incorrupt.
