Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Beatrix of Este the Elder was born between 1200 and 1206 in the castle of d’Este, Italy. She was the daughter of Azzo and aunt of Blessed Beatrix of Este the Younger. Beatrix’s mother died when she was two years old and her father married again with Alice daughter of Raynald of Châtillon. Beatrix was a sister in the convent of Santa Margherita at Solarolo, Italy. She took over a deserted monastery at Gemmola, Italy, and there Beatrix founded a new convent where it became her home for the rest of her life.
