Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Beatrix of Este the Younger was born into the family of the Norman Dukes of Apulia in Italy. She was the daughter of the Marques of Ferrara and the niece of the bl. Beatrice d’Este. Beatrix was betrothed to Galeazzo Manfredi of Vicenza, but he died before the wedding day because of the injuries he had sustained in the battle. She refused to return home and entered the convent in San Lazzaro near Ferrara. Beatrix founded the Benedictine monastery of Saint Anthony in Ferrara. She died in 1262 of natural causes.
