Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Célestin Ringeard served as a nurse during the Revolutionary War in Algeria and looked after the injured on both sides. He also worked with the homeless, alcoholics, prostitutes and outcasts of Nantes in France. Diocesan priest. In 1983 he joined the Trappist monks and moved to Algeria in 1987. After suffering from a heart problem in 1993, he had six bypasses. Célestin was among the seven monks who were abducted during the night of 26-27 March 1996 during the civil war in Algeria. They were detained for two months and then murdered because they were Christians.
