Blessed’s Biography

Bl John Haile was among the first five martyrs killed for having professed the Catholic faith under the reign of Henry VIII. All four (John Houghton, Robert Lawrence, Agostino Webster, and the Brigidino Riccardo Reynolds) were beatified by Pope Leo XIII on December 29, 1886, only four were also canonized by Paul VI on October 25, 1970, while Giovanni Haile is still revered only as blessed. Haile was a priest.
