Blessed Eugénie Joubert Biography
Blessed Eugénie Joubert was the fourth born in a family of eight. She was baptized on the day of her birth, attended Ursuline boarding school at Ministrel, France from 1881 till 1887.
Blessed Eugénie and her elder sister both went to a boarding school that the Ursulines managed at Ministrel. They both started enjoying their time there and came to cherish their experiences. Bl. Eugénie took her First Communion in 1888. On October 6, 1895, she became part of a religious order at Aubervilliers which is near Paris, France. There she began her postulant and then graduated to the novitiate. Blessed Eugénie’s mother bid her goodbye and told her not to look back, but become a Saint. On August 13, 1896, she was awarded the habit by the order’s founder Jesuit Louis-Etienne Rabussier. She later made her profession to him on September 8, 1897. Was stationed in Rome from April 1903 until May 1904. She then went to Belgium.
Blessed Joubert started suffering from tuberculosis in 1902 and succumbed to it in Belgium in 1904. Once she collapsed from exhaustion. This was after suffering a hemorrhage. Her breathing grew much more labored in her final hours and she was presented with an image of the Child Jesus to which she uttered her final words: “Jesus” three times.
