Daily Mass Readings for December 27 2024: St John Day, Feast

1st Reading – 1 John 1:1-4

Beloved:
1 He who was from the beginning, whom we have heard, whom we have seen with our eyes, upon whom we have gazed, and whom our hands have certainly touched: He is the Word of Life.

2 And that Life has been made manifest. And we have seen, and we testify, and we announce to you: the Eternal Life, who was with the Father, and who appeared to us.

3 He whom we have seen and heard, we announce to you, so that you, too, may have fellowship with us, and so that our fellowship may be with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

4 And this we write to you, so that you may rejoice, and so that your joy may be full.

Responsorial Psalm – Psalms 97:1-2, 5-6, 11-12

R. (12) Rejoice in the Lord, you just!

1 The LORD is king; let the earth rejoice;
let the many isles be glad.
2 Clouds and darkness are around him,
justice and judgment are the foundation of his throne.
R. Rejoice in the Lord, you just!

5 The mountains melt like wax before the LORD,
before the LORD of all the earth.
6 The heavens proclaim his justice,
and all peoples see his glory.
R. Rejoice in the Lord, you just!

11 Light dawns for the just;
and gladness, for the upright of heart.
12 Be glad in the LORD, you just,
and give thanks to his holy name.
R. Rejoice in the Lord, you just!

Alleluia – See Te Deum

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
We praise you, O God,
we acclaim you as Lord;
the glorious company of Apostles praise you.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel – John 20:1A AND 2-8

1A On the first day of the week,

2 Mary Magdalene ran and went to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and she said to them, “They have taken the Lord away from the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.”

3 Peter, therefore, went out, and that other disciple, and they came to the tomb.

4 And they both ran together, and that other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the tomb.

5 And when he bowed down, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not yet enter.

6 Then Simon Peter arrived, following him, and he entered the tomb, and he saw the linen cloths lying there,

7 And the napkin that had been over his head, not placed with the linen cloths, but in a separate place, wrapped up by itself.

8 Then the other disciple, who had arrived first at the tomb, also entered. And he saw and believed.
