February 4 856 AD:

Archbishop Rabanus Maurus of Mainz was born around 780 AD and died on February 4, 856 AD at Winkel on the Rhine, near Mainz.

He became the Benedictine abbot of Fulda monastery in 822 AD, greatly assisting the poor and expanding the monastery’s structures.

Later, he was elected the Archbishop of Mainz in 847 AD.

He was known as the Teacher of Germany who authored De Universo (a 22-volume encyclopedia), Martyrologium de Computo, and Excerptio de arte grammatica Prisciani.
