Parish Short History
Holy Family parish and Anchorage were established the same year.
John Vander Pol,S.J.as sent to Alaska to investigate the need for a parish in the new settlement leading to Construction of the new church which begun in September 1915 and completed on December 15 of the same year. It was the first ever church building constructed in Anchorage.
It was through the pastorate of the Rev. Robert Dermot Flanagan, S.J. that the present church was built.
The first mass was celebrated within the unfinished basement on Gregorian calendar month fourteen, 1947,enabling the parish to use main church by the top of the subsequent year and by 1966, the Holy See created the bishopric of Anchorage.

In 1981, the Cathedral was the host church for the visit of Pope John Paul II to Anchorage, that attracted a crowd calculable at regarding eighty,000 people.
