Today’s Bible Verse of the Day Reflections
Today Jesus is sending all of us to the whole world to proclaim the Good News. Just as Jesus says, the harvest is abundant but those who have gone to gather are very few.
Take an example of your neighbourhood at home. Look at the population vis-a-vis the number of people who go to church on Sunday. You will be amazed that maybe only 10% or 20% do attend church services.
This being the case, Jesus said about the shortage of His disciples almost 2000 years ago but today the situation is still the same.
Even after sending us to the world to preach the Good News, He does not guarantee us smooth sailing. This is not because He also faced the same rejection, but because the comfort of this world would not lead us to heaven, but the absence of it.
Jesus advocates for the self-sacrifice of earthly pleasures, wealth, joy, and comfort. He tells us to carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals.
He also warns us not to be distracted by people’s earthly pleasures, bad utterances, insults, ridicule or persecutions as we endeavour to proclaim the Good News.
Jesus wants us to embrace humility, love and peace as we go out there to proclaim His Kingdom. That is why He tells us to eat, drink and sleep in the homes of those who welcome us.
This is a good example of what happens to our priests when they are sent to our parishes. We provide food, upkeep funds and shelter for them. They are not supposed to get it from elsewhere.
So, let us today heed the call of Jesus to do the following
1) Go out there and proclaim the Good News, whether you are the clergy or the laity
2) Welcome the proclaimers of the Good News to our parishes and homes, and accord them the best treatment to enable them to continue the work of Christ.
Jesus warns us that if we fail to do the above, it will be more tolerable for Sodom on that day than for us on the last day.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, You have sent us to the world to proclaim Your Good News. Give us the love, peace and humility in our hearts so that we get the strength and courage to gather the harvest for You. Jesus, I love you. Amen.
