June 15 2024: Bible Verse of the Day – Let Your Yes Mean Yes and Your No Mean No – Matthew 5:34-37 – Saturday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time
34 … I say to you, do not swear at all; not by heaven, for it is God’s throne;
35nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
36Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black.
37Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the Evil One.” – Matthew 5:34-37

Today’s Bible Verse of the Day Inspiration – Matthew 5:34-37
Our Bible Verse today cautions us about swearing with things that are out of your control.
Most of the times we do not swear with things that are normal or easily achievable. We swear with things that are mind-boggling and tend to hoodwink others that we are serious with what we are saying.
We are very fond of making promises to others that we are very sure we cannot keep. Although there are others that we can keep, Jesus tells us that we need not swear on anything, all we need is to be trustworthy that our word is the truth, that our word cannot be doubted. Let your yes mean a definite yes and your no mean no.
Jesus says that anything else we say outside the truthfulness of our word belongs to the evil one. It is that untrustworthiness and deceit that is in us that makes us to start swearing.
Christ discourages us from swearing because it is a bad habit from the devil. It is the same habit that made the devil to tempt Jesus in the wilderness with fake promises that he could not deliver.
Let us today start practising honesty and our trustworthiness among our peers will start or continue to manifest. We will never ever need to swear again thus keeping the evil one away from our lives.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, increase in us our levels of honesty and trustworthiness. Help us to make our yes’s to be yes’es and our no’s to be no’s. Help us to keep the evil one and his evil ways away from our lives. Jesus, I love you. Amen.
