1st Reading – 1 John 3:7-10
7 Little children, let no man deceive you. He that does justice is just, even as he is just.
8 Whoever commits sin is of the devil. For the devil sins from the beginning. For this reason, the Son of God appeared, so that he might eradicate the works of the devil.
9 All those who have been born of God do not commit sin. For the offspring of God abides in them, and he is not able to sin, because he was born of God.
10 In this way, the sons of God are made manifest, and also the sons of the devil. Everyone who is not just, is not of God, as also anyone who does not love his brother.
Responsorial Psalm – Psalms 98:1, 7-8, 9
R. (3cd) All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.
1 Sing to the LORD a new song,
for he has done wondrous deeds;
His right hand has won victory for him,
his holy arm.
R. All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.
7 Let the sea and what fills it resound,
the world and those who dwell in it;
8 Let the rivers clap their hands,
the mountains shout with them for joy before the LORD.
R. All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.
9 The LORD comes;
he comes to rule the earth;
He will rule the world with justice
and the peoples with equity.
R. All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.
Alleluia – Hebrews 1:1-2
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets;
2 in these last days, he has spoken to us through the Son.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel – John 1:35-42
35 The next day again John stood, and two of his disciples.
36 and as he watched Jesus walking, he said: Behold the Lamb of God.
37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 And Jesus turning, and seeing them following him, said to them: What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which translated means Teacher), “where are you staying?”
39 He said to them: Come and see. They came, and saw where he abode, and they stayed with him that day. It was about four in the afternoon.
40 Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus.
41 He found first his brother Simon and said to him: We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
42 And he brought him to Jesus. And Jesus looking upon him, said: You are Simon the son of Jonah: you shall be called Cephas, which is interpreted as Peter.
