May 6 2024: Bible Verse of the Day – Monday of the Sixth Week of Easter – People Will Kill You and Think They are Offering Worship to God – John 16:1-4
They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God. They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me. I have told you this so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you.” – John 16:1-4

Today’s Bible Verse of the Day Reflections
Jesus was preparing His disciples for the true reality of what cruelty they would encounter in their mission to evangelize to the world.
Jesus Christ says that there are people who believe that by killing a person they would be offering a sacrifice to God. But He clarifies that whoever does that doesn’t do so for the True God.
This persecution that Jesus had predicted actually happened to the disciples. They did not worry or despair because Jesus had prepared them psychologically for that.
In today’s time and age, we are facing Christian persecution in the form of terrorism. Criminals are attacking and killing Christians inside churches.
They do this in the belief that they are offering sacrifice to God. Jesus says God the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit are not part of that evil act.
Therefore we should be aware, just like the disciples, that terror will come our way as we worship and proclaim the Good News. Let us pray to God that we may have the strength to persevere these heinous terror attacks by the evil one.
Prayer: Jesus Christ, you always know that we will face suffering and persecutions as we proclaim Your Good News to all the nations.
We pray that you offer us a yoke that is good to bear and a burden that is light. May we feel as if the worst suffering we encounter is a light burden. May we have the courage and strength to proclaim your Holy Word to all. Jesus, I love you. Amen.
