Saint Amand of Maastricht Biography
Saint Amand of Maastricht lived as a hermit for some time and then became a monk at age 20 at Tours, France. When he became a monk, his family tried to kidnap him but they failed. He evangelized in France, Carinthia, Germany, Gascony, and Flanders where he got beaten by the locals for his work.
He later became the Bishop of Maastricht, Netherlands in 649AD. Amand founded several Convents and monasteries where he became the Abbot of the Elnone-en-Pevele monastery in France.
He was a spiritual director of Saint Humbert of Pelagius. in his later years, he retired to Elnon Abbey where he taught Saint Chrodobald of Marchiennes and became very prayerful.
He is often associated with brewers because he spent much time preaching and teaching in beer making and wine-making regions.
