Saint John Yi Yun-on
St John Yi Yun-on was also known as Giovanni Yi Yun-il, Ioannes Yi Yun-il, Yohan Yi Yun-il. He was born in 1823 in Hongju, Chungcheong-do, South Korea.
He was a married layman catechist, farmer and a father. On January 21 1867 in Daegu, Gyrongsangbuk-do, South Korea, he was beaten, whipped, beheaded and executed for his faith, and the last martyr of a particular state-sponsored persecution of Christians in Korea.
Pope John Paul II canonized him on May 6 1984. We also celebrate him on September 20 as one of the Martyrs of Korea.
Saint Eulogius of Tarragona
St Eulogius of Tarragona was burned to death at the stake in 259 AD at Tarragona, Spain. He was a deacon in Tarragona, Spain, working with St Fructuosus and St Augurius.
Additionally, he was arrested in 259 AD by the Roman governor Emilian and martyred in the persecutions of Valerian. St Augustine of Hippo wrote in praise of these martyrs.
