Saint Basil Korean Catholic Los Angeles Short History
The Korean American Catholic Church is located in the center of LA Korean Town, the largest Korean community in Southern California. The Korean Catholic Church will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2019, beginning with the first mass of Sang Sang Sup.
At that time, many Koreans sought the comfort of their faith in their immigrant life, but in comparison to the church, the Han Chinese Church was not enough to accommodate them. They decided to establish a Korean-American community and invite a priest in Korea, which will be the beginning of today’s St. Basil’s Korean Chapel.
