St Castus together with St Emilius were born in North Africa. They were praised by St Cyprian of Carthage and St Augustine of Hippo for dying as martyrs for their Christian faith in 250 AD during Christian persecutions under Roman emperor Gaius Messius Quintus Traianus Decius.
First, they were taken as prisoners but after severe torture, they denied Christ and were released. After release, they repented and continued spreading the Gospel.
They were arrested a second time but this time around, they adamantly refused to deny Jesus Christ. They were burned to death and died as martyrs of Christ.
We celebrate their feast day on May 22 every year in the Catholic Church.
