Saint Catherine del Ricci Biography

After her birth, Catherine’s mother died leaving her very young. She was thereafter raised by her Grandmother while considering the Blessed Virgin Mary as her real mother. Catherine, therefore, had a great Devotion to her. She could talk to her guardian angel at her tender age who taught her prayers. When she was six, she joined the Convent school of Montecelli where her aunt was the abbess.

Catherine developed a passion for Gods Service a plan which his father objected at first but later changed his mind. She fell sick when her father objected the idea of joining the convent. After he changed his mind, Catherine recovered completely.

Catherine severally had visions which caused doubts among her sisters. She was stricken with a series of sicknesses that permanently affected her health. She received a vision meeting Philip Neri where she received a ring from God as a Sign of them being couples. For her, it appeared as Gold blend with diamond where everyone saw it as something reddish and circular around her finger.

At the age of 20, Catherine began a twelve-year cycle of the weekly rapture of the passion from Thursday noon to four pm. Friday frequently accompanied by wounds. Her sisters could follow the process of passion as the wounds appeared in different dimensions, from scourging and crowning with thorns. At last, her body was filled with wounds and her shoulder intended for the cross.

In 1542, she meditated on the crucifixion of Jesus that she fell ill and was healed by a vision of Jesus talking to Mary Magdalene. Large crowds came to see her where sinners were converted by the sight.
