St Comgall of Bangor Biography

Saint Comgall of Bangor was the son of Sedna. Soldier and later became a spiritual student of Saint Fintan of Clonenagh and Saint Kieran at Clonmacnoise. Comgall was friends with Saint Brendan, Saint Cormac, Saint Kevin of Glendalough and Finbarr of Moville. He felt the calling to become a priest and was ordained by Saint Lugha edh of Conmacnoise. Comgall later lived as a monk on an island on Lough Erne.

Achievements

St. Comgall founded the monastery at Bangor, County Down, Ireland in 552, and served as its abbot. He was a spiritual teacher of Saint Blane, Saint Cainnech, Saint Columbanus, Saint Deicola, Saint Fintan of Doon, Saint Gall, Saint Lactali, Saint Lua of Limerick and Saint Mochoemoc.

Death

He died in 601 at Bangor Abbey, Ireland of natural causes
