Saint Concordius of Spoleto Life History
Saint Concordius was a subdeacon in Rome and spent most of his time praying alone in the wilderness of the Tuscany region of central Italy. During the Christian persecutions of Marcus Aurelius, he was imprisoned after a trial overseen and judged by Torquatus, the governor of Umbria, Italy.
Concordius was offered his freedom if he renounced his faith and worshipped the statue of Jupiter, the Roman god. He refused and the judge ordered that he be beaten on a rack.
When he recovered from the pain he continued to praise Jesus and was thrown in jail. After two days, Concordius was given a second chance to worship the god Jupiter, instead, he spat on it and was subsequently beheaded. He died as a martyr in that year of 175 AD in Spoleto, Italy. He was buried not far from Spoleto, in a place where there was plenty of water. Some of his relics are in Bispal, Spain. Concordius was canonized at that time by religious officials.
