Saint Copra of Egypt, a desert recluse in Egypt. Helped lead Saint Patermutius to the faith. At age 45 he was captured in the mistreatments of Julian the Apostate for declining to forfeit to icons. Through honeyed words and the idea of wealth, Julian persuaded Copra to disavow Christianity. Copra was then sent to persuade Patermutius to apostasize. Rather, Patermutius persuaded Copra to come back to Christianity. For this, Julian had Copra’s tongue detached from his head and had him tossed into a heater with Patermutius. The two were safe by the blazes, and were seen remaining in the flame and supplicating; this show of confidence and quality brought Saint Alexander of Egypt to change over. Copra was pulled from the furnace and executed. A martyr.
