Saint’s Biography
Saint Crispin of Viterbo was born on November 13, 1668, in Italy. He was the son of Ubald and Marsha, and the family was poor, but very pious.
His father died when he was very young. When young Peter was five years old, his mother took him to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Oak near Viterbo, where she dedicated him to God’s mother and put him under her special protection. His simple and sincere piety made the neighbors call him il Santorello (the little saint).
He worked as a shoemaker for the uncle who provided for his education. At 25, he entered the feast of Saint Mary Magdalene on July 22, 1693, as a lay brother in the Order of Capusine taking the name Crispin.
He was moved to several monasteries. He was a gardener and a cook and sometimes worked in the hospital. Crispin published several writings that are still preserved.
He died in Rome of pneumonia at 14.30 on 19 May 1750 at 82. His clothed skeleton lies in a glass archipelago on the left side altar of the Capuchin Church of Santa Maria della Concezione de Cappuccini at Via Veneto in Rome.
