St Cronan Mochua was born in the 6th century in Ulster, Ireland. He was educated at Bangor Abbey under Saint Comgall of Bangor. He established a monastery at Gael, among the Feara Rois of Louth and Monaghan. Cronan traveled to Fore, then Hy-Many in the country of Connaught (all these places are in Ireland).
