Saint’s Biography
Saint Galla born to a wealthy family in Roman. She was the daughter of Symmachus. Her father served the consul in 485. Married soon after her father murder and widowed after a year of marriage. Legend has it she grew a beard to avoid further offers of marriage.
Saint Galla became a wealthy and true worshipper on Vatican Hill, joining with a community of women near Saint Peter’s Basilica. These women cared for the sick and poor. She founded a convent and hospital. It is said to have healed a deaf and mute girl by blessing some water.
St. Galla of Rome Death
She died in 550 AD of breast cancer.
