St. Genesius of Lyon Biography
St. Genesius of Lyon was a Benedictine monk who later became the abbot of Fontenelle. He was part of the court and the camp of King Clovis II. Genesius succeeded St. Chamond as the bishop and archbishop of Lyons, France in 657 AD. He chartered the abbey of Corbie in France and also the convent of the Blessed Virgin founded by Ebroin, mayor of the palace and his wife Leutrude.
In a conflict between Saint Leger, the Bishop of Autun and Ebroin, Genesius took the side of the Bishop and was attacked by an armed band of people sent by Ebroin to exiled him from Lyon. He gathered his own forces and defended his city.
