St Nuno de Santa Maria Alvares Pereira was also known as Saint Nuno of Saint Mary.
He was a Portuguese military leader who later became a mystic.
He was born on June 24 1360 in Cernache do Bonjardim, Portugal and died on November 1 1431 in Carmo Convent, Lisbon, Portugal.

St Nuno was the constable of the Kingdom of Portugal, a knight and a prior in the order of Saint John of Jerusalem. He was later married and became a career soldier fighting for Portuguese independence.
He became a widower a situation which made him become a lay-brother in the order of Friars of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel at Lisbon in Portugal in 1423 AD.
Founded a monastery in Lisbon. Noted for a life of prayer, penance, and devotion to Our Lady.
