Saint Nuntius Sulprizio Biography

Saint Nuntius Sulprizio was born on April 13, 1817, in Italy. He was the son Domenico Sulprizio and Rosa Luciani and was named after his grandfather. When Nuntius was three years old, his parents took him to Bishop Francesco Tiber of Sulmona, who was on a pastoral visit to the nearby village of Popoli, and he was confirmed on May 16, 1820.

Just 26 years his father died and his younger sister died four months later. About two years later, his mother Rosa married again with a much older man to secure herself and her son financially, but the step-father considered him a burden. The relationship between the two was non-existent.

Education

Nuntius went to a school run by priest Don De Fabiis There he began to learn to read and write and became a pious child, attending Mass as often as possible.

He learned to know Jesus, the Son of God, who became human and died on the cross for the sin of the world. He began to pray and follow the example of Jesus and the saints, as the good priest and the teacher taught him. Nuntius played with his little friends and was social and open.

Tragic

Nuntius’s mother on March 5, 1823, and he was only six years old. His grandmother Anna brought him to her home and took care of him. She was illiterate but had a strong faith and a great deal of kindness. He did not give up on life as he continued with his study at the school founded by Don Fantacci for the poorest children. He grew in wisdom and virtues and pure in heart and wanted to minister at the fair.

But when he was only nine years old, his grandmother died on April 4, 1826. Nuntius was taken into the home of his uncle where he immediately took the boy out of school and Nuntius as an apprentice blacksmith.

The uncle was a cruel and cruel man who treated the boy poorly and forced him to do the heaviest work, which was too heavy for his age and undermined his size. In addition, the boy already suffered from several diseases.

In 1832 Nuntius became friends with Colonel Felice Wochinger. The colonel became a surrogate father and paid for Nuntius’s medical care. Nuntius met and impressed Saint Gaetano Errico.

Death

Nunzio’s injuries ended his life on May 5, 1836, in Naples, Italy. His remains were interred at the church of San Domenico Soriano in Naples
