Blessed Franciszek Dachtera

Blessed Franciszek Dachtera was a Catholic priest from Poland. He served in the Archdiocese of Gniezno and worked as a school prefect in Bydgoszcz, helping to guide young people in faith and discipline.

During the Nazi occupation of Poland, Father Franciszek was arrested on September 17 1939 because of his faith and his work as a priest. He was imprisoned in several places and later sent to the Dachau concentration camp in Germany.

In Dachau, he suffered greatly. He was mistreated and used in cruel so-called medical experiments. He died there on August 23 1944, offering his suffering to God. Because he gave his life for Christ, the Church honors him as a martyr.

Blessed Franciszek was born on September 22 1910 in Salno, Poland, and was beatified on June 13 1999 by Pope St John Paul II.

His life reminds us to remain faithful to Christ, even in great suffering, and to trust in God’s love to the very end.

Saint Tydfil

St Tydfil was also known as Tudful. She was a princess born in the 5th century in Wales. She was the daughter of St Brychan of Brecknock.

She was murdered by pagan Saxons in 480 AD and buried at Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. She is the patron saint of Merthyr Tydfil, Wales.

Saint Victor of Vita

St Victor of Vita was born in Carthage and became a bishop in North Africa near modern Tunis, Tunisia in the sixth century.

He was exiled to Sardinia by Arian heretics. In 535 AD, he died of natural causes in Sardinia, Italy

He has writings on the persecutions by the Arian Vandals which have survived.

Saint Apollinaris of Rheims

St Apollinaris was a jailer in Rheims, France. He was a spectator during the martyrdom of Saint Timothy. At this time, Apollinaris was so moved by Timothy’s faith and courage that he converted to Christianity.

In 290 AD, he was beheaded and martyred at Rheims, France.

Saint Lupo of Novi

St Lupo of Novi was also known as Luppo. He was martyred by being stabbed with a sword in Novi (Cezava), Moesia Inferior in modern Bulgaria.

Saint Flavian of Autun

Saint Maximus of Ostia was a priest and one of a group martyred in 235 AD during the persecutions of Alexander Severus.

Saint Abbondius of Rome

St Abbondius of Rome died as a martyr at the cemetery of Saint Lawrence, Via Tiburtina, Rome, Italy.

Saint Altigianus

St Altigianus was a Benedictine monk martyred in 731 AD by Saracens at Saint-Seine, diocese of Langres, France.
