St Paul of Constantinople was also known as Paul the Confessor, or Paulus I.

He was the sixth bishop of Constantinople. He was born in the 3rd Century AD in Thessalonica, Greece.

He was starved, strangled to death, and ultimately died as a martyr in Cucusus in Armenia in 350 AD.

We celebrate his feast day on November 6 every year in the Catholic Church.

St Paul of Constantinople Biography

Saint Paul was chosen as the Archbishop of Constantinople in 336 AD. He was exiled to Pontus in 337 AD after he supported orthodox Christianity in favour of Arianism.

He returned in 338 AD, but the Arians exiled him again to Trier in Germany where he made a return in 340 AD. However, Emperor Constantius chained him and exiled him to Mesopotamia.

He made a return in 344 AD but was exiled again to Cukusus, Armenia. To prevent him from returning home, he was imprisoned starved, and murdered.
