He died as a martyr on November 22 1927 in Teocaltitan, Jalisco, Mexico during the Cristero War.
We celebrate his feast day on November 22 every year in the Catholic Church and on May 21 as one of the Martyrs of the Mexican Revolution.

St Pedro Esqueda Ramirez was born on April 29, 1887, in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, within the San Juan de los Lagos diocese in Mexico.
He entered the seminary in Guadalajara when he was just fifteen years old and received his ordination as a priest in 1916.
He was subsequently appointed as the vicar of the San Juan de los Lagos diocese. Recognizing the need for religious education for children, he established centers for catechetical studies.
Due to the Cristero War, Esqueda secretly continued to conduct Mass, which ultimately led to his capture, torture and being shot three times by the Mexican Army on November 22, 1927, in Teocaltitán, Jalisco, Mexico.
He is buried at the church of San Juan Bautista in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, within the San Juan de los Lagos diocese in Mexico.
St. Pedro Esqueda Ramirez was canonized by Pope John Paul II on May 21, 2000.
