Saint’s Biography
Saint Richarius of Celles was born a pagan and as a young, he protected Irish missionaries were in danger from non-Christians, (Saints Caidoc and Fricor). In helping Richarius converted to Christianity.
He was a priest, going to the land on the ass and preaching the Gospel. He worked in England for several years, then returned to France to establish abbey in Centula and serve as his first abbot.
When King Dagobert visited, Richarius was open and clear with his advice that the king gave him a great reward. Richarius gave gifts to the poor. He was among the first to work on ransoming prisoners. He resigned all the offices of his last years as a prayer meeting.
