Saint’s Biography
Saint Sancha was born around 1180 in Portugal. She was the daughter of King Sancho. She never married, and after her father’s death, she first lived on her properties. Saint Sancha devoted herself to charitable work. She helped the Franciscans and Dominicans in Portugal.
In 1219, she showed hospitality by helping Franciscan missionaries who were on route to Morocco.
Saint Sancha established a Cistercian monastery in Coimbra, Portugal (cell). SH entered her own cell and spent her last years of life.
Death
Sancha died on April 11, 1229 in Cell and buried in the abbey at Lorvão, Portugal.
