Saint Siard Biography
St. Siard was destined to the nobility of Friesland (a territory of present-day the Netherlands). Learned at the monastery school of Mariëngaarde, Friesland. Otherworldly understudy of Frederick of Hallum. Joined the Premonstratensians in the mid-1170s. Abbot at the house in Mariëngaarde in 1194 where he served for a long time. Noted for his adherence to the Norbertine rule, his adoration for the thoughtful life, for his liberality to poor people, and as a peacemaker. Had a commitment of Saint Mary and Saint Martha of Bethany, and gave them as guides to his siblings.
