Saint Simeon Stylites Biography
Saint Simeon Stylites, the son of a poor shepherd and worked as a shepherd as a child. As a budding monk at the age of thirteen, he turned away from monasteries for his stern, self-imposed penance. Religiously, he lived as a man on the top of a column, occasionally caring for those who had come to watch and pray with him, and began a movement of column life among eastern hermits.
